The New York City premiere of
Sex and the City was the hautest event of the season. And so the after-party had to be just as stylish, stunning, and awe-inspiring. Glam chatted with Maria Ruiz, the fabulous party planner, just minutes before the stars arrived. She took us on a tour, and gave us the delicious details on the must-sip cocktails, the beautiful setting, and the super-swanky VIP Swarovski-embellished couch.
Tell me about the inspiration for the party? What we’ve done tonight is recreate a New York nightlife feeling at the MoMa. And we’ve captured that in the food and the setting ... Crystal pillows, crystal lanterns. A lot of pink all over. I think everyone’s excited because it’s spring in New York. Everyone was a little concerned because the weather in New York is so unpredictable.
We’ve got Samantha Ronson DJing the night away. We’ve saturated the place with Swarovski crystals. You can feel the excitement all day long with everyone involved. We’re all excited to be here.
So what’s the must-sip drink tonight? We’re featuring four cocktails tonight which represent the four ladies in the movie and have completely different characteristics as do the ladies. The Carried Away cosmopolitan which is a partnership between Sky Vodka and Smart Water. It’s low in calories and it’s tasty and it’s all about the Spring.
How many crystals have you decorated with tonight? We have crystals from Swarovski hanging from everywhere on the bar. I would tell you that we have over 10,000 crystals on the carpet at arrivals. And I can’t even give you a number. But I’ll tell you that we’re drenched in crystals. Swarovski’s crystal couch. You can sit and smooch all night long and it won’t ruin your clothes. This couch was flown in from Europe in two crates because it’s very heavy but it was worth every second of the flight because it’s a show piece, and we’re thrilled to have it tonight.
How much prep time was involved in making tonight happen? Well, I have to tell you. It depends on the event itself. Something like this with all of the different partners involved. It’s taken a little longer than the usual. But on a norm, we work on it conceptually for 6 to 8 months and then we get down to the nitty-gritty and fine tuning up until the last second.
And how late do you think you’ll be here?I think we’ll be here till the morning hours.
